15th Regional Meeting on Gender Equality Mechanism




A two-day 15th Regional Meeting on Gender Equality Mechanisms in ministries of defence and armed forces of the Western Balkans was held in Belgrade, organised by the Centre for Control of Small Calibre and Light Weapons for the South East Europe of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP SEESAC).

State Secretary Mile Jelić and Assistant Minister of Defence Predrag Bandić attended the opening of the meeting on behalf of Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević. Apart from the representatives of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces, the meeting was attended by delegations of ministries of defence and armed forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of North Macedonia. Ambassadors of the Kingdom of Norway and Slovak Republic and Permanent representative of the UNDP in Serbia addressed the present.

The activity was carried out within the framework of the project “Strengthening regional cooperation in the field of gender equality within security sector reforms in the Western Balkans - Phase II” and the aim was to present a regional study of the initial state “Integration of gender perspective in military education and training of defence systems of Western Balkan states”.

The study was produced with support of UNDP SEESAC by representatives of four ministries of defence and armed forces, and it is the expression of the orientation to ensure, through proactive activities, the respect for the principle of gender equality and equal opportunities policy. The aim is to enhance policies and practice in the field of education and training, which are of vital importance for the sustainability of activities for the promotion of gender equality and eradication of gender stereotypes and prejudice.
