Service Dog Training for Guard Duty

The Dog Training Centre in the barracks “Knjaz Mihailo” in Niš carried out the retraining of service dogs for their engagement within the Guard service, by which the Centre completed this year's cycle of training for this purpose.

During the several-week long training on a specialised training area, the watchdogs executed the activities of general training, overcoming hurdles, and training in the protection of facilities by day and night, and the focus was on exercises of discipline for efficient dog handling by handlers during the execution of tasks.

The retraining conducted in this Centre is held for dogs that are already engaged for guard service in Serbian Armed Forces units, and the purpose is to maintain the high level of their competence to execute tasks of guarding military facilities and property, where their superior eyesight and sense of smell come into the play, as well as the capabilities to overcome an enemy swiftly and without the use of lethal force.

The periodical retraining of guard service dogs is just one of numerous forms of training in the Dog Training Centre, which is intended for the training, healthcare, breeding and reproduction of dogs, and for the training and professional development of veterinary service personnel.
