Regular rotation of Serbian contingent in UNFICYP

Members of the SAF military police detachment, who were deployed in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus over the past six months, have returned to the country after a successful engagement in the mission.

While in the mission, they carried out all their tasks in accordance with the mission mandate in a professional manner and thus represented the Serbian Armed Forces and the Republic of Serbia in the international environment in the best possible way. Last week, they handed over the duty to a new SAF contingent, which was sent to the area of operation early this month.

The military police detachment engaged in UNFICYP works as part of the British contingent and carries out a wide range of tasks. It provides force protection, carries out enquiries under the United Nations mandate, as well as security patrols, and provides escort for important individuals.

Besides the military police detachment, SAF’s contribution to the UNFICYP includes staff officers at the mission HQ in Nicosia. From 2011 to 2018, SAF also contributed an infantry platoon-sized unit to this mission.
