Minister Stefanović Congratulates Borbelj Victory in Novi Sad Marathon and State Champion



Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović PhD congratulated Sergeant Đuro Borbelj, member of the First Army Brigade, on winning the first place in today's 30th Novi Sad Marathon and the title of the state champion.

“I extend my most cordial congratulations!” Our Borbelj has already broken his personal record. The titles, that he has been winning, are the proof of a relentless work and persistent struggle which always yield results. We are proud of Borbelj and all young men and girls from the lines of the Serbian Armed Forces who have, I can freely say this today, established absolute domination at Novi Sad Marathon. Their victories are all the more significant, because they prepared for this competition concurrently with performing their regular tasks of serving Serbia”, said Minister Stefanović.    

Sergeant Borbelj run the track at today’s Marathon, along with 880 competitors, in two hours, 28 minutes and six seconds thus winning the state champion title. The second ranking competitor was Robert Churchward, a marathon runner from England with the time 2:56:38, while the third to finish the race was Ivan Miškeljin from Belgrade who completed the race in 2:58:22.

- I am more than satisfied, having in mind that I did not expect such a good result, but the track and weather conditions were excellent which stimulated me. I am glad to have broken the personal record from China set in 2019 when I run the marathon race as a member of the Serbian Armed Forces in 2:29:23 - Borbelj said.

Besides Borbelj, Lieutenant Colonel Nenad Milosavljević from the Military Academy won the first place in 10 kilometre race, while civilian Milivoje Jovović from J-5 of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces won the first place in 25 kilometre race, and the first place on the same track in female competition won Second Lieutenant Jelena Sarić from the River Flotilla. The team of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade took the second place in relay marathon.
