“Odbrana” magazine receives EMPA's Best Photo Award
The first prize for the best photograph published in European military newspapers and magazines was awarded to “Odbrana” magazine, the official magazine of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, at the 42nd Congress of European Military Press Association (EMPA), held in Helsinki, Finland. For the second year in a row, “Odbrana” magazine cover photo has won the greatest number of votes at this competition.
The Public Relations Department and Media Centre “Odbrana” applied for regular annual EMPA competition with a photograph taken by Predrag Vučković, which was, on the basis of the votes from member states of that Association, proclaimed the best photograph in the competition of extraordinary works of photography. The winning photograph was taken during the training of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, and it was published in the 344th issue of “Odbrana” magazine in the article entitled “Challenge of Strength, Skill and Honour”.
The Editor-in-Chief of "Odbrana” Dragana Marković received this prestigious award from the President of EMPA Jojo Mulder.
We take this opportunity to remind you that “Odbrana” magazine also received the first prize for the photograph by the same author published as part of the article entitled “In Synergy with Nature” in the 338th issue of August 1, 2020. This underwater photograph of a Serbian soldier taken during training won the greatest number of votes. “Odbrana” magazine's article on cooperation between Serbia and the Ohio National Guard by Radenko Mutavdžić won the first prize at the competition in 2007 .
The Public Relations Department is the organizational unit in charge of the activities of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces within the European Military Press Association. Serbia has been the member of EMPA since 2006, and in 2010 it hosted the Association’s congress. The EMPA is a unique military press organisation of European countries founded in 1977 in Rome. The membership of the EMPA encompasses 22 European states, and for twenty years now, this Association has been awarding annual awards in three categories for the best text, photograph, and video.
