Pontoon units dismantle bridge to Lido Beach
Today, members of the Army River Flotilla pontoon units have dismantled the pontoon bridge that linked the Zemun Quay with the Great War Island during the summer season.
The 362-metre-long bridge with a total carrying capacity of 20 tonnes was assembled in late June this year. Until today, the River Flotilla pontooners have taken care of the bridge safety and maintenance, providing the citizens with an easy access to the Zemun beach, Lido.
The elements of the pontoon bridge have been dismantled in a complex and demanding operation on two navigable sections, and the pontooners will now transport the camping and other equipment to their original barracks by waterway.
Members of the Serbian Armed Forces, in collaboration with the Tourist organization of the Zemun municipality, have been setting up a pontoon bridge over the Danube, connecting the Great War Island to the Zemun bank for years. Besides being useful for the citizens, this is also an excellent opportunity for the pontoon units to improve their skills in performing specific tasks.
