Guard Cavalry Platoon undergoes training in giving military honours
As part of its collective training, the Cavalry Platoon, subordinate to the SAF Guards Battalion, is undergoing training in giving military honours.
The training for ceremonial duties is conducted throughout the year, making sure that unit members are always ready to present a high degree of skill and that horses are well-trained and accustomed to specific circumstances and noise.
The training programme includes various elements: officers, NCOs and professional soldiers undergo individual preparations, they build up trust with the horses they are in charge of, drill the horses, and practice procedures used when giving military honours on state occasions. Actions are repeated until they become automatic, which ensures that the horsemen have complete control over their horses in every situation, and the possibility of making a mistake during the execution of a task is minimized.
The Guard Cavalry Platoon was formed in June 2018, thus continuing the long tradition of cavalry units in our armed forces and preserving the memory of the victories won by these units in Serbia’s defensive and liberation wars.
