101st anniversary of death of King Petar I Karađorđević marked

A delegation from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces has laid a wreath today at the tomb of King Petar I Karađorđević in St. George’s Church on Oplenac Hill near Topola in a ceremony marking the 101st anniversary of his death.
King Petar I Karađorđević (d. 16 August 1921, Belgrade) was one of the most important modern Serbian rulers. He came to the throne after the May coup and the assassination of King Aleksandar I and Queen Draga in 1903. His reign was marked by the Bosnian Annexation Crisis, the so-called Customs War (Pig War) with Austro-Hungary, as well as the Balkan Wars and the First World War. After Serbia’s great victories in the battles of Kumanovo, Bregalnica, Cer, Kolubara and on the Salonica Front and heavy human casualties, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes was created.
