Minister Stefanović: Kurti and Mehaj deliberately deceiving their own people
Statement by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD:
"There is no international document allowing Priština to form a military on the territory of our southern province, but there is the Brussels Agreement under which the Albanian side made a pledge to the European Union to form the Community of Serb Municipalities. Armend Mehaj and Albin Kurti are well aware of this, but they are deliberately deceiving their own people, trying to intimidate the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and destabilize our region in every possible way.
Under UN Resolution 1244, KFOR is the only legitimate armed formation that can exist on the territory of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and there is no international document allowing anything else. Politicians in Priština are well aware of this, although this does not prevent them from constantly announcing the creation and arming of the so-called Kosovo Armed Forces. The purpose of this is to instil fear among the Serbs, but also to fool the Albanians who are sinking into ever-increasing poverty and living without any future prospects.
Priština’s immature and inapt politicians obviously think that they will profit from the tragic conflict in Ukraine and avoid meeting their obligations towards the international community such as the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities. After NATO clearly told them that there is no chance of them becoming a NATO member, they have switched to claiming that they are getting a military the size of the NATO countries’ militaries. And it is quite obvious that every inch of our southern province’s territory needs to be protected from Kurti, Mehaj and the like, who are turning Kosovo and Metohija into a “black hole” of Europe where hopelessness, fear and instability flourish.
The Republic of Serbia, led by President Vučić, will stay committed to peace and stability and the preservation thereof, and will continue to fight for a better life for all its citizens, including those living in our southern province."
