Minister Stefanović: Serbia remembers its heroes
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, has reminded that Serbia remembers its heroes, including Lieutenant General Ljubiša Veličković, a pilot and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Supreme Headquarters of the Yugoslav Air Force and Air Defence, who was killed on this day, June 1, 1999, during the NATO aggression on our country.
"While he was visiting the emplaced air defence batteries in the village of Omoljica near Pančevo after this city and the positions of the Yugoslav Air Force and Air Defence had been raided by NATO aviation, General Ljubiša Veličković was killed by one of the projectiles. Brave, honourable and resolute, a true soldier, he was always on the front lines where the most intense fighting was taking place. None of the Serbian pilots backed down, on the contrary, they defended the Serbian sky bravely and fearlessly.
Thanks to his love for the homeland, enormous sacrifice in difficult times and courage worthy of admiration, he became one of our greatest heroes and guardians of the Serbian sky. We keep the memory of him and we do not forget," wrote Minister Stefanović in his Facebook post.
