Minister Stefanović takes part in ceremony welcoming Patriarch Porfirije to Mileševa Monastery
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, has taken part tonight in the ceremony welcoming His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije to the Mileševa Monastery near Prijepolje, before tomorrow's celebration of the 425th anniversary of the burning of Saint Sava’s relics.
The relics of the first Serbian educator and archbishop, Saint Sava, had rested in the Mileševa Monastery for more than 360 years, from the time they had been transferred from Trnovo to Mileševa, until they were taken by the Ottoman Turks to the Vračar Mound in Belgrade to be burned.
By visiting this monastery, Patriarch Porfirije has started his tour of the St. Sava eparchies of Mileševa, Zahumlje and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Littoral and Budimlja and Nikšić.
Atop the Titerovac Peak above the Mileševa Monastery, 950 metres above sea level, stands a Holy Cross, which was placed there in October last year by members of the Serbian Armed Forces 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron, 204th Air Brigade, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Atanasije of Mileševa.
