Military Orchestras Held Promenade Concerts in Belgrade and Niš

Today, on the occasion of marking the Day of Armed Forces of Serbia, 23rd April, the Guard Representative Orchestra and Military Orchestra “Niš” with the sounds of well-known national melodies, marched through main streets of Belgrade and Niš, greeted by numerous citizens.  The citizens of the Serbian capital enjoyed in the interpretations of old Serbian marches and other popular works of music, during the promenade concert which started at the Monument to Prince Mihailo and ended at the Kalemegdan Park.

After “Marš na Drinu”, conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Aleksandar Đurov, ensued marches of King Milan Obrenović, Field Marshal Stepa Stepanović, and Percussion Show, King’s Guard and other popular melodies that this unique musical and scene performance is recognisable for. Applauses of passers-by and citizens coming from the windows of surrounding buildings accompanied every tact played, and many recorded with their cameras the parade of the Guard Orchestra, while the youngest citizens of Belgrade rejoiced the most at the sounds of military music and blue uniforms of the Guard.  It was festive in Niš as well, where, on the occasion of the Day of Serbian Armed Forces, the Military Orchestra held a promenade concert from the Square of King Milan and Obrenović Street to the Square of King Aleksandar the Unifier.

A great number of citizens attended the performance of the military orchestra from Niš conducted by Major Dejan Đorđević, while the youngest marched alongside the Army military musicians, who, accompanied by incessant applauses, performed well-known marches.  The Serbian Armed Forces celebrate their holiday on 23rd April in memory of the day when in 1815 the Second Serbian Uprising began, which is the event that represents the milestone in the creation of modern Serbian state and military.
