Minister Stefanović lays wreath at Monument to Unknown Hero to mark Armed Forces Day
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, accompanied by the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, and Air Force and Air Defence Commander, Lieutenant General Duško Žarković, has laid a wreath today, with full military honours, at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier on Mt. Avala to mark the Serbian Armed Forces Day – April 23.
Minister Stefanović laid a wreath as the national anthem of the Republic of Serbia was being played and the Guard of Honour was standing to attention.
He wrote the following remarks in the visitors’ book:
"Even today, every Serbian soldier is guided by your immortal feats in their infinite love for their homeland.
Rest in peace and be confident that they are committed to preserving the memory of you, that they wear military uniform with dignity and strive hard to preserve the free and independent Serbia that you fought for.
Heroes, may your memory live forever. Thank you”.
The Serbian Armed Forces Day is celebrated on April 23, in memory of the day when the Second Serbian Uprising was launched in 1815, which was a turning point in the creation of a modern Serbian state and army.
