As part of the celebration of the Serbian Armed Forces Day, the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces invite all citizens to attend lectures on the "Creation of a Modern Serbian Army (1878-1912)" and "Serbian Military Flags"(1804-2022), to be held at the Central Military Club.
Colonel Dalibor Denda, senior lecturer with the Strategic Research Institute, University of Defence, will deliver a lecture on the Creation of a Modern Serbian Army (1878 - 1912) whose victories in the Balkan Wars and the First World War amazed the world. The lecture will be held at the Central Military Club at 2 p.m. on April 18.
The military reform that began after the 1876/78 liberation wars was based on the establishment of professional military institutions. This led to the transformation of the People's Army, which was considered an army of small value by the European public, into a well-organized and trained army with a mixed recruitment system and following the European model. The main initiators and implementers of those processes were King Milan Obrenović and Field Marshal Radomir Putnik, and special attention was paid to the command staff selection and training.
Colonel Miljan Milkić, senior research associate, will deliver a lecture on the "Serbian Military Flags (1804-2022)", dedicated to the flag as one of the most important state symbols. The lecture will be held at the Central Military Club at 2 p.m. on April 21.
The military flag is a symbol of affiliation, honour and combat unity of a unit which lifts the soldiers’ spirits and gives them courage. The flag is often a collective award given to a unit for all its merits. Military flags were respected and displayed as a symbol of victory and strength. An oath was taken in front of the flag, and it was safeguarded in battle at the cost of life. Despite various historical events and changes in the state system, the eagle and the cross have always been the main symbols on the flags of the Principality, the Kingdom and the Republic of Serbia.
