Basic sniper training
A specialist sniper training for officers, NCOs and soldiers is underway at the Training Command’s training grounds and exercise areas.
This three-week training course aims to train marksmen to carry out specific fire missions independently or in two-man teams in all weather, terrain and battle conditions.
The training program includes diverse tactical and weapons training topics, with a focus on selecting and setting up an appropriate hide and a firing position, stealthy movement techniques and day and night firing practices using the 7.9 mm M-76 sniper rifle and 12.7 mm M-93 long-range rifle and modern optronics and camouflage equipment.
Only select SAF members, who score the best firing results and are psychologically and physically fit for executing snipers’ assignments, undergo this training. The members who successfully complete the entire basic training course will be referred to an advanced course in order to achieve the standards set for SAF snipers.
