Minister Stefanović arrives in Beirut
Tonight, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, has arrived for a two-day visit to Lebanon, where he is going to visit members of the Serbian Armed Forces participating in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The Minister of Defence was welcomed at the airport in Beirut by the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Lebanon Emir Elfić, UNIFIL’s Serbian Contingent Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Ivica Stojanović, and Sector East Military Police Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Malau.
There are currently 177 Serbian peacekeepers in UNIFIL, most of whom are members of the Infantry Company in Sector East and the Force Protection Platoon in Sector West. Also, Serbian officers serve as staff officers at the Mission Headquarters in Naqoura, Sector East Headquarters, Spanish Battalion Headquarters and the National Support Element.
The Minister will visit members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the area of operations, and will meet with the mission leadership - UNIFIL Force Commander Major General Aroldo Lázaro Sáenz, Sector West Commander, Brigadier General Massimiliano Stecca, Sector East Commander, Brigadier General Ramón Armada Vázquez and the Italian Battalion Commander, Claudio Guaschino.
Besides the Minister of Defence, the delegation representing the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Force also includes the Second Army Brigade Commander, Colonel Siniša Stašević, Head of the International Military Cooperation Department, Colonel Nebojša Svjetlica and Head of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, Colonel Mirjana Milenković.
