Statement
The international forces camp in the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu, where members of the Serbian Armed Forces, participating in the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia)are based, was hit today by 82 mm mortar shells. Two missiles fell inside the camp and three in the immediate vicinity.
There were no casualties in the shelling and all six members of the Serbian Armed Forces are well and continue to perform their tasks professionally and responsibly.
Additional security measures have been taken at the camp to ensure the security of international troops.
mmediately after receiving the news of the incident, Lieutenant General Želimir Glišović, Head of the Operations Department(J-3), Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, spoke to Colonel Dragan Krstić, a senior national representative in the mission, who informed him that all members of the Serbian Armed Forces were safe, motivated and committed to carrying out the assigned tasks.
The Serbian Armed Forces are contributing a staff officer to serve as the Chief Medical Officer in the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia) and a five-member medical team responsible for providing primary health care to the mission’s personnel.
The Serbian Armed Forces General Staff is constantly monitoring the situation in all peacekeeping operations where members of the Serbian Armed Forces are deployed and is in constant contact with our contingents.
