Minister Stefanović: Armed Forces - one of the key guarantors of peace and stability

Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, visited members of the Fourth Army Brigade in the "First Infantry Regiment of Prince Miloš the Great" barracks in Vranje. According to Minister Stefanović, it is evident that the personnel of the Fourth Army Brigade are ready to defend the homeland at any moment.

– This brigade continues the tradition of motorized brigades that defended our country before it. These people work day and night, making sure that we don't have to worry about our safety and security. Of course, by increasing their salaries and improving their equipment within the country's means, we show that we take care of them and appreciate this difficult military job, because anyone who has spent at least one day in the military with soldiers knows how difficult this job is - said Minister Stefanović.

According to him, our task is to invest in new equipment and modernization.

– This will be done by our overhaul institutes, in collaboration with the Military Technical Institute. They will make sure that tanks, armoured vehicles, artillery and air defence systems, some of which have been in service for a long time, are upgraded to such an extent that service personnel are satisfied with them and can perform their tasks. It is also important that we continue to procure new equipment for our military. We want to use this new equipment to strengthen the units in this brigade, which is one of our strongest and most fully manned brigades. We want to continue strengthening it by introducing new training and providing it with new equipment and show how important it is for us that each brigade is able to respond to any challenge and keep protecting and defending our country - said Stefanović.

Minister Stefanović said that the situation in Serbia is stable and satisfactory.
– Peace and stability are very important to us and the armed forces, which act as a deterrent, are one of the key guarantors of peace and stability, and we will, of course, continue to strengthen our armed forces and invest in our personnel, so that no one would ever again consider Serbia a prey or try to harm its people in any way," said the Minister of Defence.

Commander of the Fourth Army Brigade, Brigadier General Novica Petrović, briefed the Minister about the situation in the unit and its tasks. Later, Minister Stefanović attended the demonstration of armoured units’ training.

During today's visit, Minister Stefanović, accompanied by the Deputy Army Commander, Major General Slađan Stamenković and the Head of the Defence Minister’s Office, Colonel Stevan Kotarlić, visited the Fourth Army Brigade’s memorial room which keeps the memories of soldiers, police officers and citizens of Vranje and the Pčinja district who died in all wars since 1878.

After visiting the memorial room, Minister Stefanović wrote the following words in the visitors’ book:

"The magnificent display in this memorial room speaks of the tradition, courage and dedication of Serbian soldiers and especially of their love for Serbia. Keep alive the memory of these heroes of our country forever!"
