Defenders of Fatherland Day marked
On the occasion of Russia’s Defenders of the Fatherland Day, a delegation representing the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces laid wreaths today at the Monument to the Liberators of Belgrade in the Second World War, the Monument to the Soviet Soldier and the Memorial Ossuary containing the remains of Russian soldiers killed in the First World War at Belgrade’s New Cemetery.
The Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, and the Russian Defence Attaché to Belgrade, Major General Alexander Zinchenko, also paid tribute to the fallen soldiers. The Defenders of the Fatherland Day is commemorated by paying tribute to all soldiers and veterans of the Russian Armed Forces. One thousand three hundred and ninety-five soldiers of the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army and 818 members of the Red Army, who sacrificed their lives fighting for the liberation of the Serbian capital in the Second World War, were buried at the Liberators of Belgrade Memorial Cemetery.
