Finance Service in MoD and SAF
When the Finance Department was formed within the National Defence Commissariat in November 1944, the Finance Service was formally and legally constituted as a separate service in the army, and the day when the first document issued by the Finance Department was delivered to unit commanders - November 8, 1944, was designated as the Finance Service Day in the Serbian Army.
Before the Finance Service was constituted, financial affairs in military units had been conducted under different names and as part of certain activities, ensuring the fulfilment of responsibilities, duties and tasks in both war and peace.
In the post-war period, the main focus of the Finance Service’s work was the normative regulation of operations and integration of financial bodies in all commands and units, so that in 1946 the Finance Department was formed, and in subordinate units finance departments, sections and officers were established.
From the time of the Yugoslav People's Army to the present-day Serbian Armed Forces, the Finance Service has always harmonized its organization, competences and responsibilities with the development of the economic and financial system and the development of the military, in order to ensure stable financing and a legal, rational and economical expenditure of funds.
To address the needs of the defence system, the Budget and Finance Department was formed in the Ministry of Defence in 2010, whose structure has been changed several times in order to adequately address all assigned tasks, reforms and visions for the development.
