Minister Stefanović visits "Moma Stanojlović" Aviation Institute

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, has visited today the “Moma Stanojlović” Aviation Institute in Batajnica, where he said that this institution is a treasure of the Armed Forces and that after the meeting with President Vučić, it was agreed to allocate additional 8.5 million euros for the improvement of capabilities and production processes.
- “Moma Stanojlović” is one of the oldest aviation overhaul institutes in our country, dating back to the First World War. Nowadays, the Aviation Institute is responsible for performing repairs and overhauls on the aircraft used by the Air Force, primarily on the Eagle and Super Galeb aircraft, but also on the Gazelle helicopters - Minister Stefanović pointed out. After the meeting with President Vučić, we agreed to allocate more funds, approximately 8.5 million euros that will be used to increase the capacity, renovate the hall used for the overhaul of aircraft and helicopters, and for the completion of the aircraft painting plant and the improvement of production processes - Minister Stefanović emphasized.

According to him, one of the key problems is inadequate staffing level, which will be dealt with in the forthcoming period.
- Thanks to President Vučić, we have managed to provide the third salary increase for service members in January, but of course, my colleagues at the Ministry and I will try to find ways to further motivate the people working in this overhaul institute, just as we have done at the Military Technical Institute, and just as we are planning to do at the overhaul institutes in Čačak and Kragujevac - said Minister Stefanović.

The Minister of Defence emphasized that the most complex overhauls are being performed on our planes and helicopters in that Institute, and that certain products for our tanks are manufactured there, which he had the opportunity to see during his visit to the tire plant.

- We want to show that we take care of our workers, both the ones with secondary school qualifications and engineers, because they are essential for the development of all new means and the overhaul of the existing ones. If we want to use our means in an adequate manner, we need to invest in their maintenance. This primarily requires staff, and that is why we will show that we take very good care of these people.  Also, I am grateful to the President for the funds that have been provided and that will breathe new life into this Institute, which is one of the treasures of the Serbian Armed Forces – Minister Stefanović emphasized.
According to him, during the meeting with the management of the Institute and General Žarković, they discussed specific projects that need to be launched, as well as what can be expected and what can be invested in.

- I expect the Institute to increase its capacity so as to deliver at least two or three overhauled "Eagles" per year, and thus, working at full capacity with almost 500 workers, "Momo Stanojlović" will be restored to its former glory, and these people who have vast experience are one of the treasures of our Armed Forces that we must never lose - said Minister Stefanović.  After the briefing, Minister Stefanović visited the tire plant and the aircraft overhaul and maintenance plant.

The Minister was accompanied on his visit by the Air Force and Air Defence Commander, Lieutenant General Duško Žarković and the director of the “Moma Stanojlović” Aviation Institute, Colonel Slaviša Pavlović.
