Minister Stefanović on the Occasion of 107th Anniversary of Battle of Kolubara

Today, on the occasion of 107th anniversary of the Battle of Kolubara, the greatest victory won by the allies in 1914 during the First World War, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović PhD stated that we are obliged to remember that the brave hearts of Serbian soldiers did not flinch and that we, as their descendants, must never fall in our fight for freedom and progress of our fatherland.

- Along more than 200 kilometres long front, through snow and quagmire, with not enough of equipment, clothing and ammunition, the brave heart of Serbian soldiers did not flinch. More numerous and better equipped enemy was surprised by the courage and strength of Serbian heroes, who in the decisive moment of the battle, managed to reorganise, and launch a counteroffensive and win glorious victory – Minister Stefanović said.

He reminded that with celebrated feat the small Serbian people had managed to win the Battle of Kolubara in the greatest clash of Serbian and Austro-Hungarian armies in the First World War.

- The military tactics of Živojin Mišić, who, in that great battle, led the successful counteroffensive of the First Serbian Army, is studied even today at military academies all over the world. Our armed forces can be proud today because they are descendants of honourable fighters and wise superior officers such as Živojin Mišić, Petar Bojović, Stepa Stepanović… To be a descendant of glorious and brave soldiers is a great responsibility, and that is why we are obliged to never fall in the fight for freedom and progress of our fatherland – Minister Stefanović stated.
