Minister Stefanović visits wood processing plant in Šabac

Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD visited the "Belgrade" Military Construction Institution’s wood, PVC and aluminium windows and doors production plant in Šabac. During the visit, he pointed out that the Military Construction Institution has made a significant step forward over the last 12 months and has managed to raise construction to a record level.

- I am glad that our Military Construction Institution can proudly boast of making a significant step forward over the last 12 months and that, by utilizing its entire production capacity, it has managed to raise its construction to a record level. And I don't only mean regular maintenance, which is very important, since the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces have a large number of buildings, but also the construction of new buildings - said Minister Stefanović.  The Minister of Defence noted that this institution participated in the construction of Covid hospitals on military land, and at this moment, its engineers are putting in a great deal of effort to construct a vaccine factory.

- Also, new hangars are being built at our airports, because we want our new aircraft and helicopters to be kept in the best conditions and not to depend on the temperature outside. In addition, we intend to improve the construction of all the buildings that have been damaged over time and are therefore inadequate for accommodating people. We are also considering extensive renovations to the barracks and providing modern living conditions for future soldiers, in case the state decides to reintroduce regular military service - said Minister Stefanović.  He thanked the employees of the Wood Processing Plant in Šabac for struggling hard to equip military facilities with their own products.

- This plant manufactures windows, doors and furniture. Today, we also talked about further investment in the procurement of new equipment, which would make the process even more efficient - Minister Stefanović emphasized.

He also said that the lack of staff is an issue, because there is always a need for additional workers and engineers, and added that this is a battle that the state is constantly fighting with private companies.

- And that is good, because Serbia is developing. Yesterday, we adopted the annual budget and I would like to thank once again President Vučić who showed concern for us and made sure that we are allocated a budget for an eight-percent salary increase for all the MoD and SAF employees, which makes us the only institution, other than the Ministry of Health, that has received such a large increase - Minister Stefanović pointed out.  The Minister of Defence said that this is a great obligation, but also an additional incentive for those people and everyone else in our system.

- Next year, we will invest in new machinery and equipment, not only for this plant in Šabac, but for the entire Military Construction Institution, because we want to be fully capable of carrying out maintenance of our facilities and constructing new ones. Once again, I want to thank all the workers, all the people who, despite the Covid crisis, haven’t stopped working, haven’t stopped fighting for their armed forces and Serbia and I really have to praise all these people who have worked day and night and managed to achieve such significant results - said Minister Stefanović.

The production plant that the Minister visited today processes wood and manufactures wood profiles used by the "Belgrade" Military Construction Institution for its construction work, as well as wood, aluminium and PVC windows and doors for the MoD and SAF buildings.  Recently, the production has been focused on the production of entrance doors and windows from various materials for the newly constructed buildings in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, and the buildings that have undergone maintenance. In addition, the plant has the capacity to build container structures.

The Minister was accompanied on his visit by State Secretary Branko Živanović, Head of the Infrastructure Department Colonel Slobodan Starčević, PhD, Director of the "Belgrade" Military Construction Institution Aleksandar Novković and Plant Manager Ivan Đurić.
