Participation in the meeting of observers of the US-Adriatic Charter

Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Predrag Bandić participated in the part of the US-Adriatic Charter (A-5) meeting open to observers in Split, dedicated to issues of regional cooperation and security challenges caused by the pandemic.

The meeting was held toward the end of Croatia’s chairmanship of the А-5 Initiative.

The meeting, which was attended by delegations representing member states and observers of the US-Adriatic Charter (A5) led by defence ministers or their designees, was also attended by Nate Adler, performing duties of the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense.
During the meeting, Assistant Minister Bandić spoke about preventing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic as a platform for strengthening regional defence cooperation and the Ministry of Defence's commitment to peace and stability in the region, as well as active participation in all regional initiatives.

He also pointed out that the Republic of Serbia strongly opposes the promotion of the illegally and unilaterally proclaimed independence of the so-called Kosovo within the A-5, which would disrupt efforts to normalize relations between Belgrade and Pristina through dialogue under the auspices of the European Union and with the US support.

Assistant Minister Bandić also emphasized that the Republic of Serbia is firmly committed to dialogue as the basic mechanism for resolving all open issues. He also pointed out that KFOR is the sole legitimate military formation in the area of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija.
