Members of Serbian Armed Forces Placed Holy Cross on Mountain Top Titerovac above Mileševa

Today, members of 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron of 204th Air Brigade of the Air Force and Air Defence placed Holy Cross on the mountain top Titerovac above the monastery of Mileševa in the vicinity of Prijepolje. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović PhD commended the members of Air Force and Air Defence who had managed to perform that complex endeavour and underlined that he was proud of them.

“The Holy Cross has just been placed on Titerovac mountain top, on a slope of the mountain of Zlatar above Mileševa monastery, with the blessing of His Eminence, the Bishop of Mileševa Atanasije. The brave men of 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron of the Serbian Armed Forces, supported by other colleagues from AF and AD on the ground, have managed today to perform this complex task. I am proud of all of them, and they have yet again showed that there are no impossible tasks for them and that they are always ready to give their best in order to help. From now on, the Holy Cross will stand next to Serbian tricolour that flutters from Titerovac, at the altitude of more than 950 metres, above Mileševa monastery, the medieval holy place from the first half of 13th century”, wrote Minister Stefanović on his Instagram profile (@nebojsastefanovic).

Because of the impassability of terrain and complexity of the task, the Eparchy of Mileševa addressed the Serbian Armed Forces asking for assistance in placing the Holy Cross that weighs 3,800 kilograms, and which is 11 metres high. A Mi-17 helicopter crew was engaged for this task consisting of Major Dragan Marjanović, Captain First Class Miroslav Matić, Sergeant First Class Danilo Nenadić and First Sergeant Zoran Cogolјević. Members of 204th Air Brigade and 98th Air Brigade provided the assistance from the ground.

Bishop of Mileševa Atanasije Rakita expressed his gratitude to the members of the Serbian Armed Forces underlying that without their help, placing of the Holy Cross on Titerovac would not have been possible.

The task coordinator from AF and AD Command, Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Grbović pointed out that the execution of the task had been preceded by detailed preparations aimed at successful placement of the Holy Cross. He stressed that in complex weather conditions and because of the difficult terrain, the required equipment had been brought to Titerovac in several phases to prepare the base of the Holy Cross, and he added that the activity had been successfully completed despite gusts of wind that had made the job of the helicopter crew more difficult.
