Celebration of the Day of 63rd Parachute Brigade
Today, at the military airfield “Sergeant-Pilot Mihajlo Petrović” in Niš, a celebration was held to mark the Day of 63rd Parachute Brigade and the Day of military paratroopers, which is celebrated in memory of 14th October 1944, when the First Parachute Battalion of the People’s Liberation Army of Yugoslavia was formed in a military base near Bari in Italy.
Today, members of 63rd Parachute Brigade celebrated the unit Slava, the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God, and on that occasion the bishop of Niš and of military Arsenije served a hierarchical Divine Liturgy.
In front of the ceremonial formation of the unit members, the results of the work done in the year behind us were reviewed, and the most noteworthy individuals received rewards and recognitions. Bishop Arsenije conferred the Order of Saint Sava to the Commander of 63rd Parachute Brigade, by which the Holy Episcopal Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church decorated the unit for the great role it had played in the defence of the fatherland and protection of the Serbian people.
The celebration was attended by representatives of commands and units of the Serbian Armed Forces, former commanders, family members of killed members of the unit and representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church and Veterans association of 63rd Parachute Brigade.
