New issue of "ODBRANA"
We have prepared a lot of interesting topics for the October issue of “Odbrana” magazine.
In addition to the regular activities carried out in the defence system, including exercises, whose common goal is to improve the operational capabilities of the armed forces and their interoperability, it can be said that the previous month was marked by two events. The first one, the celebration of the Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag Day, put the nation in a festive mood, and the other one, the provocation by the Pristina authorities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, disturbed the citizens of our southern province, followed by Serbia’s decisive response, demonstrating capability to preserve the peace and security for its citizens at all times. The IN FOCUS section includes a standard overview of activities in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in the month preceding the new issue of "Odbrana".
The STANDING POINT section is dedicated to the new Serbian second lieutenants’ swearing-in ceremony. They faced with numerous challenges on the way to the first officer rank, tried their hand at distance learning and trained in a specific, confined environment due to Covid-19 pandemic.In addition to the details about the ceremony attended by the highest state and military dignitaries, the article includes testimonies of the top-ranking graduates about the challenges they faced with and the joy they felt at obtaining their first appointments.
During the month of September, the Serbian Armed Forces trained independently, but also with partner militaries, as described in the extremely informative SYSTEM section. Members of the 250th AD Missile Brigade successfully conducted a joint live fire drill with aerial targets in Bulgaria, together with Bulgarian missile units. We also give accounts of the "Sky Bridge 21" exercise where paratroopers, members of our 63rd and U.S. 173rd parachute brigades trained jointly, and the international exercise "Neighbors 21" which members of the Serbian Armed Forces successfully conducted with members of the Hungarian Armed Forces and the Ohio National Guard. Members of the Military Health Department participated in the "North Macedonia 2021" exercise as part of the Balkan Military Task Force (BMTF), and the First Army Brigade and River Flotilla units conducted the "Tisza 2021" exercise, where complex actions and procedures used when performing offensive operations on land and water were practiced.
The SYSTEM section also contains a text about Serbian and Hungarian river units’ exercise, the "Iron Cat 2021", which was dedicated to the "Protection of river traffic" on the river Tisza near Titel, and a text about our drivers who achieved great success at the International Army Games in the Russian Federation, winning seven medals. This section also contains an article about the international military police competition "Guardian of Order”, which ended with the victory of the Serbian military team, as well as a text about members of the Fourth Army Brigade participating in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Incidents and catastrophes involving submarines are the events that attract a lot of public attention. The GLOBAL section includes the story entitled "Cold War Mystery" about the fate of the K-129 submarine. The same section contains an article about German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s departure from the political scene.
After the recent promotion of the book entitled "Košare and Paštrik - Serbian Thermopiles" by General Nebojša Pavković and Rear Admiral Boško Antić, published by the Media Centre "Odbrana", we present this title in the CULTURE section, and we also cover the premiere of the film made on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the heroic 125th Motorized Brigade.
Finally, on the occasion of the Armoured Units Day, the HISTORY section tells the story of the introduction of tanks into our army.
