Member of Sports Unit Tijana Bogdanović wins bronze at Tokyo Olympic Games

A member of the MoD’s Sports Unit, civilian Tijana Bogdanović, won a bronze medal for women's taekwondo in the -49kg category at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
On his Instagram profile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, congratulated Tijana with the following words "WELL DONE, TIJANA! That's the way champions fight!!!"

"The second medal for Serbia and the first medal for the Ministry of Defence athletes. Let's move on, to new victories! Serbia!!!" Minister Stefanović wrote (@nebojsa__stefanovic).

Tijana, seeded second at the Olympic Games, lost 12:4 to Spain’s Adriana Cerezo Iglesias in the first round. With the Spanish competitor earning a place in the finals, Boganović got a chance to fight for the bronze medal in repechage.
Through a great fight and a score turnaround in the repechage, Tijana Bogdanović defeated the seventh seed two-time Olympic champion, China’s Wu Jingyu, with a 12: 9 win, thus securing herself a place in the bronze medal contest.

After a great fight with the fourth seed, the Japanese Miyu Yamada, Tijana brought Serbia a bronze medal, with a 20:6 win.

In the coming days, four more members of the Sports Unit will compete at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Jasmina Milovanović (shooting), Anja Obradović (judo), Aleksandar Kukolj (judo) and Jovana Preković (karate).
