UN grateful to Serbia for its contribution to world peace

The support that Serbia provides to the United Nations peacekeeping forces and the Serbian peacekeepers’ dedication are highly appreciated, which was confirmed by the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix’s statement, which was published by TANJUG.

Lacroix thanked Serbia for providing a level 2+ hospital to the UN Mission in the Central African Republic, which increased the UN peacekeeping forces’ capability to provide their members with the highest quality health care - diagnostics, triage, prevention and treatment of diseases, as well as surgical interventions.
"The medical unit from Serbia has provided medical care to thousands of patients, including Covid patients, and in addition to helping the UN staff, the unit has also provided health care to the local community," Lacroix said.

He also expressed gratitude to Serbia for deploying an infantry company to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

"The unit has not only performed military tasks extremely professionally, but has also carried out humanitarian activities to help local communities fight against the pandemic," Lacroix said, adding that the UN was especially grateful for the dedication of men and women who were serving far from home and in difficult conditions.

Currently, 263 members of the Serbian Armed Forces are participating in UN multinational operations, and the largest number of troops has been deployed to the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, where 177 women and men from Serbia are serving.
