New Issue of “ODBRANA”
The month behind us was certainly marked by the Joint tactical exercise “Momentary Strike 2021”, held on eight locations all over the Republic of Serbia, that the units of the Army, Air Force and Air Defence, 72nd Special Operations Brigade and 63rd Parachute Brigade executed in close coordination. In our “SPECIAL” that opens the July issue of the magazine “ODBRANA”, read about what segments of their fire power the Serbian Armed Forces presented in the second half of June and what the final demonstration on Pešter looked like in front of the highest state and military leadership, accompanied by attractive photographs taken by our photo reporters.
The section titled “IN FOCUS” traditionally brings the review of the activities carried out in the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces in the month that precedes the new issue of your magazine, and this one was marked by numerous activities that once again showed a high level of operational and functional capabilities of the armed forces, the level of their equipment and training, as well as a consisted position of military neutrality of our country. The previous month was also marked by a range of important international meetings of representatives of our state and military leadership.
The STOPPING POINT covers the topic of the preservation of Serbian cultural heritage in Kosovo and Metohija, bringing an unsettling conclusion that the future of the Serbian cultural heritage in the southern Serbian is even today questionable, even though this is not only the issue of cultural and artistic treasure of the highest rank, but it is also the question of an identity determinant of the Serbian people.
In the section called the SYSTEM, we recommend that you read texts about the exercises that our armed forces executed with partner militaries. A two-week training of the soldiers from 10 states, at the International joint tactical exercise “Platinum Wolf 2021” was successfully concluded on the training ground “Borovac” with an exceptional demonstration of capabilities to react to crisis situations in peacekeeping operations. At the same time, at the military training ground “Raevsky” near Novorossiysk, a town in the south of Russia, an exercise was successfully executed by special forces of the Serbian Armed Forces, Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus and Russian Federation titled “Slavic Brotherhood 2021” with the participation of around thousand soldiers.
The SYSTEM brings a story about the members of special units of the Serbian Armed Forces who participated in the exercise “Orion 21” in Greece, and the one about the demonstration of capabilities of the students of final year of the Military Academy who took an important practical test (and passed) on the training ground “Pasuljanske Livade”. Within the segment on this theme, “Odbrana” presents a text about the oath taking ceremony by the June intake in Valjevo barracks “Field Marshal Živojin Mišić”, and the story which is an introduction to the Second Army Brigade Day, the unit that celebrates its holiday on 12th July in memory of that day back in 1805 when Karađorđe’s rebels liberated today’s town of Kraljevo. We have concluded the “SYSTEM” with the first newspaper text on T-72M tank battalion, titled the “Golden triangle: mobility, fire power and protection”.
The section “GLOBAL (PARALLELS) our permanent contributor Colonel Slaviša Vlačić PhD presents the novelties in Greek Air Forces, which is considered to be one of the strongest European and NATO air formations, while the section called OCCASION brings an interesting and moving story of retired Lieutenant Colonel Saša Oluić, a pilot of MiG-21 fighter, and about the aeroplane which after having been the first pillar of defence of our air space, has recently been decommissioned in the Serbian Armed Forces.
In the section HISTORY, read a text on Bukovik, forgotten camp which served as a command post during the breach of Thessaloniki front.
