President Vučić meets with French Chief of Defence Staff

The President of the Republic and the Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, received the Chief of the Defence Staff of the French Armed Forces, General François Lecointre, with whom he agreed that there was an upward trend in bilateral relations between the two countries, including defence cooperation.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, and the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović.

President Vučić and General Lecointre also discussed the strengthening of military-economic and military-technical cooperation, as well as the improvement of cooperation in the field of joint training, including the EU peacekeeping operations. The interlocutors also considered the improvement of military educational cooperation on the basis of reciprocity.
"Serbia sees France as a reliable partner in terms of military-technical and military-economic cooperation, which is confirmed by numerous agreements concluded over the past period," said President Vučić, emphasizing that partnership and cooperation in this field was of strategic interest for both countries.

The interlocutors also discussed the recent developments in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and pointed out that the extremely severe impact of this disease on all aspects of life could only be diminished by joint global action.

As President Vučić particularly emphasized, Serbia's full membership in the EU remains one of our country’s main foreign policy priorities, and Serbia is making considerable efforts in the process of European integration.

"France's support on our European path is of great importance and we are counting on that support," President Vučić said, adding that Serbia had accepted the new methodology in the accession negotiations, and he expressed hope that the achieved results would be adequately validated by opening new chapters in the negotiations.
