92nd anniversary of death of Field Marshal Stepa Stepanović marked



Members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces laid wreaths at Field Marshal Stepa Stepanović’s grave at the City Cemetery in Čačak, to mark the 92nd anniversary of his death.

Wreaths were also laid by representatives of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, the Moravica Administrative District, the Mayor of Čačak, associations committed to nurturing the traditions of Serbian liberation wars and numerous citizens. The wreath-laying ceremony was followed by an artistic programme.
Field Marshal Stepa Stepanović (1856-1929) was one of Serbia’s most important military commanders during the liberation wars that took place between 1912 and 1918. His greatest wartime achievements were the battles of Adrianople in 1912 and the battle of Cer in 1914.

Field Marshal Stepa Stepanović’s contribution to the victory of the Serbian Army in the Balkan Wars and the First World War was enormous. He received a large number of high Serbian and foreign decorations.

Field Marshal Stepa Stepanović died in Čačak on 27 April 1929.
