Minister Stefanović at “Karaburma“ MMC: A year of fighting for patients with most severe Covid-19

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, visited today the doctors and medical staff working at the Karaburma Military Hospital, who have been continuously treating patients with the most severe Covid-19 symptoms for more than a year. He called on the citizens to show respect to medical professionals by following the public health measures and getting vaccinated.
- I have a special privilege today of being in the company of these exceptional people who have been working in the Covid system here at the Karaburma Military Medical Centre for more than a year and who have not had a single day or night off since April 6, 2020 – said Stefanović.

Since April last year, when the Karaburma MMC became part of the Covid system, more than 2,300 patients have been given medical attention, while 102 patients are currently being treated there, nine of whom are receiving mechanical ventilation.

According to the minister, all patients who are currently being treated in the military Covid system have severe symptoms and need constant medical attention.

- The entire medical staff, i.e. doctors, technicians, nurses, and other employees who are helping them, look after the patients 24 hours a day, provide them with care, treat them, fight for them, encourage them and are fully devoted to delivering the highest quality of care. They are our country’s true heroes and I would like to thank them once again and call on the citizens to thank health workers in the best possible way, by being disciplined, following the measures, getting vaccinated and encouraging others to get vaccinated - said Stefanović.
In this way, he added, we will show doctors and medical staff that we truly respect their efforts and that we are truly grateful to them for working day and night, away from their homes and families, so that they can treat us.

Symbolically, as a token of appreciation for their dedicated work, Minister Stefanović surprised the doctors and medical staff with a cake decorated with the coat of arms of the Ministry of Defence.

The medical staff thanked Minister Stefanović for his support and the trust he placed in them. They added that they had stoically endured so far thanks primarily to good organization and mutual respect.

During today's visit, the Minister of Defence said that the children's Covid ward will be opened tomorrow at the New Belgrade Military Medical Centre. It will work from 8 am to 5 pm every day, including weekends and holidays, and the children of soldiers and retired military will be able to get tested there.
