Stefanović: Serbia remembers and celebrates its heroes
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, talked today to the family of the recently deceased retired member of the Serbian Armed Forces, Zlatko Solunac, one of the participants in the heroic Battle of Košare, which began on this day 22 years ago. The minister said that Serbia remembered and celebrated its heroes.
In his conversation with Zlatko's wife Sladjana, son Miloš and daughter Milica, Minister Stefanović pointed out that their husband and father had loved his homeland and defended it at the most difficult time, which is why Serbia was obliged to keep alive the memory of him and take care of his family. Zlatko Solunac was buried three days ago in his hometown of Lapovo with full military honours. His son has been doing his military service since March, and as he said in the conversation with the Minister of Defence, that was his personal way of showing respect for his country.
The Battle of Košare, in which 108 soldiers lost their lives, started on this day, and members of our army, including Solunac, prevented the terrorist KLA coming from Albania from invading our territory by land.
"It has been 22 years since the beginning of the Battle on Košare, which every Serb remembers. Serbian soldiers bravely, fearlessly and heroically opposed a more numerous and stronger opponent, not fearing for their lives. The Serbian people owe President Aleksandar Vučić a debt of gratitude for the fact that today we are not ashamed to mark and remember the battles of Košare and Paštrik, NATO bombing, operation “Storm“ and Jasenovac crimes," said Minister Stefanović.
According to him, Serbia speaks loudly today about the horrible crimes committed against our people and proudly celebrates its victims.
“Serbia remembers and celebrates its heroes. We remember well that the NATO aggression is a crime without punishment. Our children and generations to come must know who their ancestors were and what they gave to their country. This is their country whose history proudly records the names of the heroes who defended their homeland in Košare, the pride of every Serb. One hundred and eight candles will burn forever and remind us of the sacrifice these young, fearless guys made in order to defend Serbia, their ancestors and saints. Heroes live forever! Glory to them!", said the minister.
