President Vučić meets with Chinese Minister of Defence Fenghe
President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić met today with the State Councilor and Minister of National Defence of the People’s Republic of China General Wei Fenghe with whom he discussed promoting dialogue and cooperation between the two countries in numerous fields, as well as readiness to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Serbia and China.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff General Milan Mojsilović, Assistant Minister for Material Resources Nenad Miloradović and Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Predrag Bandić.
President Vučić extended a warm welcome to Minister Fenghe and emphasized that this meeting would result in even more productive cooperation between the two countries.
“We are convinced that this visit is another confirmation of Serbia and China’s ’steel’ friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership and a sign of its deepening in all fields“, President Vučić emphasized, adding that Serbia and relevant ministries were ready to work with the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of National Defence on the further development of overall relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of military-economic, military-medical and military-educational cooperation.
The interlocutors agreed that the traditional friendship between our countries, as well as continuous deepening of friendly relations, had gained a considerable momentum during the visit of the President of the People’s Republic of China to our country in 2016, which had raised our friendship to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership.
President Vučić once again expressed gratitude for China’s assistance to Serbia during the Covid-19 pandemic, emphasizing that despite the pandemic, the continuity of dialogue and promotion of cooperation between Serbia and China had been maintained.
They agreed that one of important characteristics of our strong bilateral relations was Serbia’s participation in the “17 + 1” mechanism focusing on cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries, as well as the “Belt and Road“ initiative, which Serbia strongly supported and attached great importance to.
The President of Serbia once again emphasized our country’s unwavering support for the "One China" policy and added that he highly appreciated China’s respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.
President Vučić said he was pleased with the dynamic development of military cooperation and expressed Serbia's interest in promoting it further.
The President strongly emphasized that Serbia was looking forward to President Xi Jinping visiting Serbia again when the conditions were met and the epidemiological situation was normalized.
