Jovana Preković wins Karate Premiere League in Istanbul
Jovana Preković, member of the MOD’s Sports Unit, is the winner of the Karate Premiere League organized by the World Karate Federation and held from 12 to 14 March in Istanbul. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, congratulated Jovana Preković on winning the gold medal.
“My warmest congratulations on your success. We are proud that you are a member of the Ministry of Defence, and that you achieve top results and honourably represent our country worldwide. Thank you, dear Jovana, for everything you do for Serbia”, Minister Stefanović said.
In the first three rounds, the current world champion in the under -61 kg weight category – Jovana Preković beat Slovakian, Swiss and Croatian competitors. In the semi-finals, she beat the Iranian competitor Shima Alesaadi 6:3 and made it to the finals that were on program today, where Rozita Alipourkeshka failed to show up due to injury.
“I am very pleased with my success in the Premier League, which is another confirmation of my current top form. I am sorry that my opponent got injured in the finals and that there was no final match. I continue with the preparations for the next Premier League and the European Championship. I am also looking forward to the Olympic Games in Tokyo because I already qualify for them and I hope to achieve another success at the biggest sports event", said Jovana Preković in a telephone conversation after winning the Premier League in Istanbul.
