Death anniversary of King Milan Obrenović marked
A delegation representing the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces laid a wreath today at King Milan Obrenović’s tomb in the monastery of Krušedol on Fruška Gora Mountain, to mark the 120th anniversary of his death.
The state ceremony was led by State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Miodrag Kapor.
The ceremony was organized by the Serbian Government and the Committee for Nurturing the Traditions of Serbian Liberation Wars, and wreaths were also laid by representatives of the Provincial Secretariat for Culture and Public Information, the municipality of Irig, associations and citizens.
King Milan Obrenović ruled Serbia from 1868 to 1889. During that period, several liberation wars were fought and Serbia gained international recognition as an independent state by the decision of the Congress of Berlin dated 13 July 1878. King Milan died in Vienna on 11 February 1901, and he was buried in a tomb in the monastery of Krušedol on Fruška Gora Mountain.
