Remains of Zoran Veselić, a hero of Košare, buried

The remains of Zoran Veselić were buried today with full military honours in Laćarak near Sremska Mitrovica. Zoran Veselić, a military volunteer, died on 19 April 1999 at Maja Glava on Košare while he was defending his homeland from Shiptar terrorists in Kosovo and Metohija.
Veljko Odalović, the Serbian government’s Missing Persons Commission Chairman, says that Zoran Veselić’s remains were found and identified last year and taken over in Priština a few days ago.

– We carry on conducting the search for the missing persons. The Covid pandemic has slowed down this difficult task that we will not give up. Two months ago we went to Košare and Priština where we shared the information we have with the authorities and we hope to identify more individuals soon. There are about 570 persons on our missing persons list, 24 of whom are soldiers. Six soldiers who fought on Košare are listed as missing and we hope that we will find more bodies soon, when we search the location that we showed to temporary institutions in Priština in November. It is a difficult task that we will not give up for a single moment. The soldiers who gave their lives performing the most sacred duty of defending their homeland deserve that – said Veljko Odalović.
Today, 22 years after the heroic death of Zoran Veselić, born on 12 February 1972 in Sremska Mitrovica, a hero of Košare and a member of the heroic 125th Brigade, representatives of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior, the Gendarmerie, veterans' organizations, the inhabitants of Laćarak, relatives and comrades in arms laid wreaths on his grave.

Zoran Veselić was awarded the Order of Merit in the field of defence and security. Staff Sergeant Vladimir Mitnaver handed over the flag of the Republic of Serbia, which covered Zoran Veselić's coffin, to Veselić's uncle, Stevan Petrović, as a sign of the homeland’s gratitude.
