Serbian Patriarch dies



The Head of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), His Holiness Patriarch Pavle died at the age of 95 at the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade yesterday on 15 November 2009.

Patriarch Pavle was admitted to the Military Medical Academy on 10 November 2007, in a life-threatening condition. During his hospitalization, the conference of 12 doctors, headed by the Head of MMA and the most prominent experts of MMA were in constant session monitoring the condition of the Patriarch constantly. The Holy Synod had been continuously informed of His Holiness’s condition,while the members of the Synod were constantly by the Patriarch’s side.

Thanks to intensive efforts invested by the MMA and the implementation of the state-of-the-art diagnostic measures and treatment, the Patriarch overcame several critical stages.

However, despite all measures taken, His Holiness Patriarch Pavle died yesterday at 10:45 CET in his sleep in his room at MMA.
