Minister Stefanović meets with Russian Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, met with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Belgrade, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko today.
Minister Stefanović assessed the cooperation in the field of defence as highly developed and in accordance with the overall relations based on strategic partnership and exceptional mutual respect. He pointed out that the year behind us had certainly been marked by the Covid-19 pandemic and thanked Russia for the medical assistance it had donated to prevent further spread of Covid-19.
Minister of Defence emphasized that the opening ceremony of the "Eternal Flame" complex at the Memorial Cemetery to the Liberators of Belgrade on 15 December, in which the Guard members and delegations of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation participated, was another significant contribution to our struggle to preserve historical truth and pay tribute to all those who had given their lives during the liberation of Belgrade and the two countries, as well as the defeat of fascism.
Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko confirmed Russia’s readiness to continue cooperation with Serbia in the field of defence, including the military-technical cooperation. He emphasized the importance of participation of members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in the 9th Moscow Conference on International Security and International Military Games 2021.
At the meeting, both parties assessed that the cooperation in the field of the defence in 2020 had kept the upward trend and that regardless of the coronavirus pandemic and postponement of certain events, key activities had been carried out.
After exchanging Christmas and New Year’s greetings, collocutors expressed hope that the mitigation of the coronavirus epidemic would lead to the continuation and further development of cooperation in the field of defence between the two countries.
