Wreath-laying ceremony to mark Veterans’ Day
A delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces laid wreaths today with military honours at the New Cemetery and at the “Eternal Flame“ memorial in Ušće, Belgrade, to mark the Veterans’ Day.
The delegation led by Brigadier General Miroljub Čupić laid wreaths at the New Cemetery’s Memorial Ossuary to the soldiers fallen in the Serbian-Turkish wars and the Serbian-Bulgarian war, Memorial Ossuary to the Defenders of Belgrade in the Great War and the Monument to the Defenders of Belgrade in the Second World War.
Members of traditional and veteran associations also laid wreaths at the New Cemetery and Ušće in memory of the fallen Serbian soldiers.
The Veterans’ Day is observed in memory of the day in 1912 when the armistice was signed in the First World War and 400,000 fighters of the Kingdom of Serbia’s Army received the title of “old warriors“, i.e. veterans.
