Minister Stefanović lays wreath at Monument to Unknown Hero on Veterans’ Day
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, has laid a wreath today at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Mt Avala to mark the Veterans’ Day.
Accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilović and Deputy Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence, Brigadier General Željko Bilić, Minister Stefanović laid a wreath with full military honours, as Serbia’s national anthem was performed and Guards of Honour lined up.
After the wreath-laying ceremony, Minister of Defence wrote the following in the memorial book:
"Firmly united and guided by faith in your homeland, you won the victory and defended our citizens’ right to live freely in our country. You protected your country and defended its honour, regardless of the price you had to pay.
Rest in peace, knowing that you wrote the history of victors and that your descendants will never allow the memory of your deeds to fade.
You deserve eternal glory. Thank you!"
Veterans’ Day is marked on 4 December in memory of the day when the armistice was signed in the First Balkan War in 1912 and when 400,000 soldiers of the Kingdom of Serbia’s Army received the title of “old warrior“, i.e. veteran.
This holiday is marked in all MoD and SAF’s commands, units and institutions to commemorate the fighters who gave their lives for the freedom of our homeland.
