Minister Stefanović meets with Turkish Ambassador Bilgic
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Serbia, Mr Tanju Bilgic, today.
Minister Stefanović pointed out that bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Turkey are at a high level and that he strongly supports further improvement of cooperation between the two countries which undoubtedly contributes to maintaining peace and stability, both in the Western Balkans and on a global scale. He assessed that this was confirmed by a high level of cooperation between the two countries’ Ministries of the Interior and the goal is to achieve the same level of cooperation between the two Ministries of Defence, based on the Republic of Serbia's commitment to being neutral and having a balanced defence policy.
At the meeting, the need for the development of cooperation in the field of equipment provision and modernization was particularly highlighted. The collocutors agreed that it would be a solid basis for raising mutual interoperability to a higher level than the one shown so far in the joint participation in multinational exercises, various student exchange programmes, as well as strengthening the overall operational capabilities of the two countries’ armed forces.
Ambassador Bilgic congratulated Minister Stefanović on his appointment as Minister of Defence and wished him success in his future endeavours. He emphasized that based on the cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Turkey so far, the conditions are favourable for its further promotion and improvement. Turkish Ambassador expressed his belief that we would develop a closer cooperation and agreed with Minister Stefanović on key areas of future joint activities.
