Statement by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD:
“The Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces always stand with their people, both in difficult times, such as the time when we participated in the preparations for the funeral of His Holiness Patriarch Irinej, and on all other occasions, which is the reason why we are one of our country’s most trusted institutions.
It is almost superfluous to comment on today’s attacks on members of the military who stood in honorary lines and carried the coffin with the earthly remains of His Holiness. They show how little the authors of this text, as well as the politicians who order such attacks on the armed forces and the Serbian Orthodox Church, understand the connection between the military and the people.
At the same time, I need not remind you that the armed forces also have a chief military priest, a chief military chaplain and a military imam, and that they pay equal attention, completely impartially, to all religions and that they deeply respect freedom of religion.
The Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces will continue to stand with their citizens and will carry out all tasks ordered by the President of Serbia, which help our people in various situations and we are there for our people in both good and bad times."
