MMA to receive energy efficient building

Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy, Prof. Zorana Mihajlović, held a meeting of the working group for monitoring the implementation of the “Project of constructing energy efficient facilities at the Military Medical Academy”.
The current status of the project, as well as the next steps related to the incomplete project documentation and financial contracts finalization were discussed at the meeting.

Minister Stefanović said that this is a project of major importance and that the Ministry of Defence and the Military Medical Academy are ready to do everything in their power to help this project, but also to provide support to other partners in the system in order to carry out the project as quickly and efficiently as possible.

“I thank everyone for the support. The Ministry of Mining and Energy is in charge of the project implementation and the MMA, a world-renowned institution which has not been invested in for decades, is the end user. This institution preserves its reputation thanks to the superhuman effort and quality of staff, and the completion of the project will be of great importance for the entire country”, Stefanović said.
The value of the first phase of the project is estimated at 100 million and the plan is to finance it with the KfW Development Bank’s loan, the WBIF’s donation and the IPA’s funds.

“The Military Medical Academy was built in 1981 and it started operating in 1982. Despite proper maintenance and current state, it is necessary to reconstruct technical systems and installations, repair thermal insulation envelop and reconstruct the boiler room and heat pipes, which has to be completed by the end of 2021. Our mutual goal is to accelerate the activities and carry out different phases simultaneously. There is no reason why we should not be more efficient if we all work together because this project will save at least 30 percent of the consumed energy," said Mihajlović.

The meeting was also attended by other members of the Working Group – members of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Mining and Energy, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health, the KfW Development Bank and the Public Investment Management Office.
