Major Dejan Krsnik and Captain First Class Zvonko Vasiljević die in a MiG-21 crash
Major Dejan Krsnik and Captain 1st Class Zvonko Vasiljević, pilots from the 101st Fighter Squadron of the 204th Air Brigade of the Air Force and Air Defence of the Serbian Armed Forces, were killed today in the crash of a MiG-21 aircraft in the area of the village of Brasina near Mali Zvornik.
Major Dejan Krsnik, Commander of the 4th Aviation Section of the 101st Fighter Squadron was born in Belgrade on 28th May 1971. He was a professional serviceman since 30th July 1994. He was married and a father of one child.
Captain 1st Class Zvonko Vasiljević, Assistant Commander for Intelligence and Reconnaissance Activities of the 101st Fighter Squadron, was born in Loznica on 3rd October 1977. He was a professional serviceman since 29th September 2001. He was married and a father of two children.
Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin, Chief of the General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović and the Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence, Major General Duško Žarković have sent telegrams of condolences to the families of the killed pilots.
Minister Vulin and Generals Mojsilović and Žarković are at the scene of the aircraft crash as well as the competent investigative bodies. An investigation is underway.
The MiG-21 aircraft was inspected before take-off in accordance with all procedures and after the inspection, it was determined that it was in good working order and ready for flight.
The MiG-21 aircraft of the Serbian Armed Forces crashed today at about 9.10 a.m. in the area of the village of Brasina near Mali Zvornik, while performing a regular flight task.
