Retired General of the Army Dragoljub Ojdanić Passed Away



 
Today, retired General of the Army Dragoljub Ojdanić passed away at the Military Medical Academy after a short illness.
 
Dragoljub Ojdanić was Chief of General Staff of the Yugoslav Army in the period from 1998 to April 2000, and in the course of 2000 he was a minister of defence of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.  
 
He was born in 1941 in the village of Ravna near Užice. He graduated from the Army Military Academy on Infantry Department in 1964 and completed Command and Staff Academy in 1975. He completed his postgraduate studies of the Arts of Warfare in 1985 and gained the title of a master of science.
 
He served in Sarajevo, Đakovica, Prizren, Priština, Užice and Belgrade.
 
He was promoted to the rank of major general in 1992 and assigned as Užice Corps Commander. He was the Chief of Staff of the First Army (1993-1994) and the First Army Commander (1994-1996). He became Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Yugoslav Army in 1996, and from 1998 to 200 he was appointed as Chief of General Staff of the Yugoslav Army and Minister of Defence of FRY.
 
In 1999, he was promoted to the rank of General of the Army because of his war merit and he received the Order of Freedom.
 
His active military service ended in 2000.
