Minister Vulin: Reestablishment of Cavalry Platoon means respect for tradition and preservation of equestrian sports

- Armed forces are not an armed power. Armed forces are keeper of fundamental values and our tradition. Restoration of cavalry component in our armed forces is yet a proof of respect for our ancestors, our glorious traditions, and a proof of memory of our glorious Cavalry Division which won victories in the Balkan Wars, and it is a confirmation that the armed forces never forget – said Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin after a demonstration of activities of Cavalry Platoon of Serbian Armed Forces Guard held in a horse farm “Karađorđevo“.

In this way, the armed forces preserve tradition and contribute to preservation of equestrian sports – Minister Vulin concluded.

Minister Vulin was informed about the unit and its activities, which was followed by the demonstration of drill – realignment of the platoon, movement in line walking and trotting – in a column one by one, and by two and going around.

According to Cavalry Platoon Commander Captain First Class Martin Pacula the tasks of the autonomous platoon are conduct of military honours as part of protocol activities of state bodies on horses, and training of horsemen and horse training.

- We are located in horse farm “Karađorđevo” where working conditions are exceptional, but the work is very hard and demanding. Horsemen are required to possess exceptionally high psycho-physical capabilities and preparedness to apply at any moment a training method and work with the horses. Training of the horsemen is extremely complex and lasts for a long time, even up to six months, and horse training is even more complex and it can last up to two years – said Captain First Class Pacula and added that the horses from horse farm “Karađorđevo” have been trained for two years now and that they are entirely ready for work.

- However, horses procured from Hungary have been undergoing training for one year and they are yet to be trained. They are ready for work, but with certain shortcomings which do not reduce their capability to be used – stressed Captain Pacula.

The demonstration was attended by Deputy Commander of the Guard of Serbian Armed Forces Colonel Željko Gavrilović.
