Commemoration of 106th Anniversar of the Battle of Cer
Today, a delegation of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces laid a wreath at the charnel house within memorial complex “Battle of Cer” in Tekeriš near Loznica on the occasion of commemoration of the 106th anniversary of the Battle of Cer.
The state wreath laying ceremony was led by Envoy of President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs Zoran Đorđević.
Organiser of the state ceremony is the Government of the Republic of Serbia – Board for Fostering Traditions of Liberation Wars of Serbia.
At the charnel house in Tekeriš, wreaths were laid by representatives of towns Loznica, Šabac and Krupanj, institutions, organisations and associations that foster the traditions of liberation wars of Serbia.
The Battle of Cer, which took place in August 1914, represents one of the most significant and greatest victories of the Serbian Army in the entire First World War. At the same time, it is a shiny example of tactically well devised and executed military operation.
By taking the victory in that historical battle, members of the Serbian Army led by General Stepa Stepanović gave an example of immeasurable bravery and patriotism which remained interwoven in collective consciousness of the nation until the present days.
