Filming of a Documentary-Featured Film about the Breach of Corridor in 1992
The second filming phase of a documentary-featured film about the breach of Corridor in 1992 which connects eastern and western part of the Republic of Srpska, started with filming reconstructions in a barracks in Ruma. The film, of the author Slađana Zarić, is being created in coproduction with Military Film Centre “Zastava Film”, Radio Television of Serbia and Television of the Republic of Srpska. Previously, statements of some 80 immediate participants in the battle were recorded in an improvised studio in Banja Luka.
Facilities of the barracks in Ruma have been adapted to remind of the conditions in which the fights were fought for the breach of “the road of life” or the corridor. From Ruma, the filming will be moved to Pasuljanske Livade, and then to the surroundings of Vršac.
“In that period, following the great offensive of the Croatian military, there was no electricity in Banja Luka for 42 days, there was not enough food, but there were cigarettes… We were in a situation that 12 babies died, who were, because of oxygen insufficiency, truly deprived of the right to live. I do not know what would have happened to those babies, whether they would have survived, but oxygen could not come to them because of that halt at the Corridor, and because “the road of life” was cut off” narrates the author of the film, Slađana Zarić.
The film chronologically follows the developments starting from the crossing of the River Sava by Croatian military, establishment of camps, suffering of the Serbs in Odžak, Derventa and killing of 32 soldiers from Military post Vranje. Apart from the witnesses, actors from Serbia and Republic of Srpska participate in the film as well.
“I have not played many historical characters, and I count these three as historical ones and that is a great honour. I played in Krugovi by Srdan and Aleksandar in theatre, and that carries a particular weight, and I immediately accepted now because I take care of that” says actor Vuk Kostić.
„A film about the Corridor has not been made. I was very young then but I remember the euphoria, and how many people joined the action since everybody knew that it was of life importance and everyone made every effort to make it work” actor Slobodan Perišić added.
Military operation Korridor lasted from 28th June to 6th October 1992 in the area of Posavina. In that action, 273 fighters of the Army of Republic of Srpska died while 1,918 warriors were wounded.
